Melrose Pepper

The Melrose Pepper, which originated in Italy has curiously become  synonymous with the windy city of Chicago in the USA where it is cultivated extensively. The funky lobe based green ripening to red 10cm peppers hang pendulum style in large numbers on 55cm-60cm sturdy bushes that make interesting container plants.

At first glance the Melrose Pepper looks like it is a variety of hot pepper.  It is anything but!  This lovely pepper is in fact one of the zero heat varieties of sweet pepper, but zero heat does not mean zero taste.  These little beauties are packed with very sweet, fruity, zesty flavour making them favoured over the slightly less sweet bell pepper varieties.
