Green Moldovan DF Tomato
Here is the Dry Farming Strain of the popular heirloom tomato Green Moldovan. An extremely popular variety amongst people in the know when it comes to green tomatoes. Originally from Moldova it was entered into the SSE (Seed Savers Exchange) handbook in 1998 from where its popularity really took off. Plants are generally easy growers with round slightly flattened medium to large sized fruits. Fleshy firm and sweet with a citrus flavoured undertone as you expect from a green tomato.
Apart from fresh eating, at Glen Seeds we love using green heirloom tomatoes in cooked dishes where it really brings out a pronounced tomato zing to food.
Plants are medium size in height and easy to manage.
In South Africa as with many parts of the world, fresh water reserves are of concern. Green Moldovan tomato Dry Farming strain was one of the first drought resistant vegetables we ever tried and did exceptionally well during the extreme heat and drought that started in the middle of 2014 and lasted until the middle of 2016. Dry farming strains that we tested during this time far outperformed any other vegetables we planted. Dry farming tomatoes still need water but much less than normal strains.
