Petrillo Tomato

The origins of the Petrillo Tomato are disputed, with some saying it was introduced from Puerto Rico in the early 50's and others insisting it is of Italian origin.  What we do know is that they are pretty happy right here in South Africa! Regardless of where this magnificent ruffled, eye catching beefsteak tomato comes from - it is very tasty!  Vines are of a resilient, mesic disease resistant  variety.

The large glossy red fruit of the Petrillo Tomato has an unexpected tartness to it making it a excellent sautéing tomato and packs a refreshing punch in salads and on sandwiches.
