Scotch Bonnet Chilli
The Scotch Bonnet Chilli is so named for its resemblance to the Scottish Tam o' Shanter bonnet traditionally worn Scottish men. This 'crazy hot' chilli goes by many names - Scotty Bons, Carribean Red Peppers, Bahama Mama and, most fittingly Ball of Fire Chilli - and is on par with the habanero but about 50-100 times hotter than a jalapeno.
The inviting bonnet shaped green ripening through yellow to warning sign scarlet red fruit of the Scotch Bonnet Chillis are produced by the dozen on 45cm tall bushes. These chillis are a staple throughout the Caribbean and are accredited with giving Jerk cooking its unique taste. Scotch Bonnet chillis have a fruitier flavour than the other chillis in its class and infuse a rich flavour to very spicy dishes
